Thunderbird Harley-Davidson®

We are a part of & support our local community!

Here at Thunderbird, we are proud to serve the local community. We support several designated charitable organizations as well as other various causes. Below are just a few examples, not to mention the literally hundreds of charitable rides that either start or end at our store.

Blessings in a Backpack

In March 2014, we held our first ever Celebrity Ride that started at Thunderbird and ended at Duke City Harley-Davidson® for their grand opening event. Tommy Flanagan, Aka “Chibs” from the hit TV show Sons of Anarchy flew in to lead the ride. Over 800 bikers purchased tickets and we were able to raise over $8,000 which is enough to fund the program for two more years! We will host another Celebrity Ride in March of 2015 once again supporting Blessings in a Backpack.

Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)

Nation-wide, Harley-Davidson® is a major supporter of the MDA. Here locally, our dealership and the Turquoise Trail HOG® Chapter raise funds for an entire year to send children to summer camp. The cost is roughly $800 per child but the benefits each child receives is priceless. We host several fundraising events including bake sales, gift wrapping, raffles, rides, private donations and more! Every year we are able to send between 20-30 kids to camp based on our efforts.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement is the State's largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Four times a year, our store welcomes groups of students for our tour. We go through the history of our company (both Scott Fischer Enterprises and the Harley-Davidson® Motor Company), we show them all the different job opportunities that are available at our store specifically and finally, take them on a tour of the store. During the tour, the students spend time with department managers to find out what they look for in potential candidates.

The program has been a great experience for both our staff and the students! We’ve received several letters telling us how exciting the tour was, how much they’ve learned and even had a student tell us that they wanted to apply to MMI (Motorcycle Mechanic Institute) to hopefully become a technician at our store one day.

The Military

We here at Thunderbird are proud supporters of our military men and women. In addition to the national efforts that the Harley-Davidson® Motor Company make (including special military financing), we take part in several events benefitting the military. Every year during the Run for the Wall journey to the capitol, we pay for the gas for every motorcycle, road guard and service vehicle as they make their way from Gallup to Albuquerque. Over the years, we’ve contributed over $20,000 for this event alone. It is our privilege and is the least we can to do show our gratitude.

In 2014, we were honored to host a ceremony for MSgt Leroy Petry. Medal of Honor recipient Leroy Petry said he's dreamed of the day he'd ride a motorcycle alongside fellow veterans. Petry lost his right hand in combat and knew it would be hard to ever ride a motorcycle again. At this ceremony, Barbara Montoya and other organizers presented Petry with a custom trike making it possible for him to Run for the Wall in 2015. We also presented him with the top of line Harley-Davidson® Competition leather jacket, gloves and added a couple of special features to the Trike. We look forward to seeing him in 2015 at the fuel stop.

Toys for Tots is one of our most fun annual rides. Paul Caputo does such a great job organizing a ride that starts at Duke City Harley-Davidson® and ends right here at Thunderbird. With the help of Donut Mart, we made sure every rider had breakfast and provided a free lunch once they arrived at Thunderbird. We also host an annual Freedom Photo during Veterans Day weekend where we invite active duty and retired military for a free breakfast and photo under the American Flag. We also have special photo sessions during other military holidays for Veterans.

Thunderbird Harley-Davidson® and Scott Fischer Enterprises a proud sponsor of ScootinAmerica which will chronicle the travels of Adam Sandoval and his Chihuahua, Scooter “Trash”, as they ride their motorcycle to every Harley-Davidson® dealership in the lower 48 states to raise money for fallen soldiers. Scott Fischer Enterprises is proud to sponsor this great initiative and help Adam on his adventure.

The charity ride will take them to over 690 Harley-Davidson® dealerships, logging an estimated 65,000 miles. Along the way, other riders are free to join the ride for the day or as long as they would like for a daily contribution to the ride’s charity- The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, which helps to ensure that higher education is a possibility for children whose parents lost their lives in the line of duty.

Thunderbird specifically will be welcoming Adam and Scooter to our dealership in March as he will lead our annual celebrity ride to Duke City Harley-Davidson®. Half of the proceeds will go towards The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund and the other half to Blessings in a Backpack.

Gears & Glamour

Three years ago, we here at Thunderbird signed on to be a major sponsor of The Ability Connection New Mexico’s first ever Gears & Glamour Event. The Ability Connection provides a full range of services for people with physical and intellectual disabilities as they strive to achieve their highest level of independence.

At the 2014 Steve Stucker (KOB 4’s Weather Man) and Erica Viking (COYOTE 102.5 morning show host) once again MC’d the event. This time, half of the runway models were our local customers and helped The Ability Connection raise over $6,000.
